How To Find a Photographer In Another Country
Having an excellent photographer was at the top of my priority list but I had no clue how to go about hiring someone in another country. Here are a few suggestions on finding the right person that fits your style and vision.
Where to start with your photographer search:
Start with the obvious - a quick google search in the area you’re getting married and collect a few names that stand out. For our Dominican Republic wedding, this WeddingWire article was very helpful.
Find Facebook groups or Instagram pages dedicated to your resort or general area you are getting married
Destination Wedding Brides was a very helpful fb group to ask questions related to all planning needs
If you have a travel agent, ask if they have any recommendations that previous couples they’ve worked with used
Once I narrowed my search down to 2-3 photographers based on their websites and recommendations, I followed their social media pages for a few weeks to get a feel of their photography style over several weddings.
The next two steps were the most important to making our FINAL decision:
It’s ok to be a social media stalker - I reached out to a few brides that were tagged in my favorite photographer’s social posts and asked about their experience. I already knew I liked their photos, but how were they to work with overall? What was their personality like? Were they responsive and reliable? etc… I have found that brides love to share their experience and each one got back to me with raw, honest answers. This was extremely helpful!!
I emailed our photographer for all initial information (pricing, availability, etc.) and then asked to set up a video meeting. This is where we were sold. He was funny, personable, familiar with our resort, understood what we were looking for, made suggestions we hadn’t thought of and left us feeling more excited than ever for our wedding. This was our guy!

Milan with Photo Cine Art was not only a great photographer, he enhanced our entire wedding experience with his fun, professional, creative personality, flexibility, and the way he interacted with everyone while being one step ahead of the timeline the entire day. We called him the ninja because he was super stealth while moving everywhere, all at once, capturing multiple angles of our special day. Bottom line, he is an artist that photographs insanely beautiful, perfect (and imperfect) moments that made our wedding unique and special.
