Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone
The Country Music Conundrum …
I’ll be the first to admit, I’m NOT the biggest country music fan, BUT Tess is. Sure, I appreciate the classics like Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again”, or Garth Brooks “Friends in Low Places” etc., but the new stuff sang by poppy pretty people with very little substance and no real-life grit is pretty much insulting … and should be reserved only for the new Nashville bachelorette party experience (my opinion). OK, so now that you know how I really feel about it let me tell you how to make your person feel special by “Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone” to make an experience that they will never forget.
Knowing how hard this was going to be FOR ME, I needed to take baby steps into this experience so I did some research. I painfully listened to A LOT of country songs on Spotify. I like to call it desensitization. After what felt like an eternity (20-30 minutes) I discovered a style, Kenny Chesney that was actually kinda fun and reminded me of Jimmy Buffet (R.I.P.), but now what …Well, I did a Google search for when and where Kenny would be touring, and just my luck he was coming to a venue nearby, Merriweather Post Pavilion, the same day as my birthday … I snatched a couple lawn seat tickets and surprised Tess with an Easter day present to be used in the summer (always a good idea to have things to look forward to).
Long story short(ish), this turned out to be an awesome experience for both of us, and has led to some other fun, Country music, experiences (some past, Hunter Girl @ BCB, and soon-to-be, Tim McGraw @ CGF Arena). While I am still NOT a huge country music fan, I am a fan of bringing a smile to Tess’s face even if I have to step out of my comfort zone. TBH, I am truly looking forward to seeing Tim McGraw, and knowing the joy it will bring to Tess.
Steps for setting up this fun date:
Be THOUGHTFUL (keep an open mind) and step out of you comfort zone. It does not need to be country music. Think of something your person really enjoys that you may not care for so much i.e., Broadway play, musical, the Opera, Tai food etc.
Pick a date, venue or whatever it may be and set it up
Relax, FULLY COMMIT, smile (NO cynical comments), and bask in your person’s joy.
You may be surprised at how much you enjoy and appreciate the experience, but rest assured your person WILL. Now go out there and make it happen!
