Keep It Simple, Stupid!
Early Evening Dinner Date Followed by Netflix & Chill
Don’t overcomplicate things. It does not need to be difficult; it just needs to be thoughtful…I wouldn’t have imagined that the following date was “the MOST romantic date” she had ever been on…Either mine was just that good or this poor girl has dated some real DUDS! She said it was both, lol.
Items Needed for Part I:
Thoughtfulness: Pull one or two little things you know about your person out of your memory banks, for example: what is her favorite thing to eat, drink, listen to, read, see, talk about…I knew at the time all she could drink were light beers (health related), and Coors Light was her go to, and I also knew she liked Sushi…So I went with that.
Location: Pick a spot near your/their home that is pleasant and may have a good view. I chose the pier near my condo on the Inner harbor in Fells Point, at Sunset.
Folding Chairs (x2): That’s all I need to say about this one.
TV Tray: If you don’t have a tv tray, GET ONE! Just kidding, but they do come in handy whether on a cool date or in front of your tv at home…If you don’t have one you can use a card board box you have been saving from amazon or a 5-gallon bucket. Just be sure to have something to set your food on…
Simple Dinner to Go: I picked Sushi because I knew she liked it and it was easily portable (it also did not hurt that it was in walking distance to my place). It could be their favorite burger joint, fast food, favorite home dish etc. Just have a food that is special to them, NOT only you!
iPhone/Android: For music and pics. I chose reggae/Island music since it was the beginning of Spring and we were on the water at sunset. Pick whatever fits the mood and is something that is pleasant and uplifting…
Genuine and Fun Conversation: Keep it fun and flirty. No drama or heavy conversation just light-hearted positive vibes and be present – IN THE MOMENT!
Items Needed for Part II:
Comfortable room with a TV and Internet/Cable: A comfy spot in your home. Mine was the living room
Blankets & Pillows: I wanted to have a slumber type of atmosphere and bring out my inner child. I gathered up comforters and cozy blankets and as many cushions and pillows that I had and set up camp on the floor in front of the TV.
TV Show or Movie: I remembered from our previous conversations that she had never seen “The Office” with Steve Carell, and what better way to keep things light hearted and fun than laughing our asses off. Whatever works for your person and keeps the mood fun and enjoyable.
Elements of Surprise (AKA The Twist!): Or what I like to refer to in terms of this date, “The Ice cream on the Cake (cookies…)! Little did she know that I had a surprise of dessert up my sleeve. Not the sultry seductive kind of dessert a date of this romantic magnitude would deserve, but something a little bit sweeter… I conveniently excused myself for a rest room break solely so that I could order Vanilla Ice Cream and fresh, warm, assorted cookies from Insomnia Cookies (also near my place). 30 minutes later there was a knock at my door, and she was wondering who that could be. When she realized what it was, I could see the little kid in her beam with delight. Words don’t describe the unadulterated child-like energy this surprise evoked in my partner. It was priceless…Bottom line, surprise your person with something sweet and simple and you will be a hero in their eyes.
Rearrange, change/modify, add, delete, scrap, use at will or in piece-meal. Do whatever you find works best for you and what you think your partner likes best, but either way, Keep it Simple, Stupid!
