Classic Mint Julep
The Basics-INGREDIENTS
2 fl oz — bourbon/Rye Whiskey
1/2 fl oz — Simple Syrup
Ice
4 Mint Leaves
Garnish — Mint Sprig
With a Twist!
In addition to the above Basics, if you want to add a twist and zhuzh (zhoosh) it up a bit see below:
Add 1/4 tsp Vanilla Extract to above recipe
Crushed Ice
Dusting of chocolate powder on top (for holidays or whenever. Who doesn’t like chocolate …)
Preferably use a copper Julep cup, pour in the simple syrup and “vanilla extract” and muddle (smoosh and press) the mint leaves in the bottom. Fill cup halfway with ice “crushed” and pour in 1 fl oz of bourbon. Stir and combine thoroughly. Then add a little more ice and pour another 1 fl oz of bourbon over top. Stir again and dust with chocolate powder, or not. Add your mint sprig garnish and voila!
